We've got to hand it to this independent chain. They've got 25 stores in the Bay Area and, as they've grown, they haven't lost the sense of connection to the community that made them popular in the first place. First off, they offer a fabulous selection of dog food and other products at competitive prices (in fact, they guarantee that their price is lower than any other store in the Bay Area or online). Then there's their self-service dog wash. For $12 (or 4 for $9 each) sud up your dog with Earthbath shampoo in one of their chest-high tubs. They provide towels, blow dryers, and, possibly best of all, they clean it all up when you're done. The stores also have weekend low-cost micro-chipping and vaccination clinics and training classes. On top of all this, they show a real dedication to helping support the efforts of local shelters in creative ways, including their My Mutt program. In return for a generous donation to a local shelter, they'll make a jumbo-sized poster of your dog and display it in one of their stores for a year.
