garland ranch regional park, carmel valley
When you tire of visiting Carmel’s beach, take a hike in this 4,462 acre park. As in all Monterey County parks, dogs are allowed to be off-leash as long as they are under voice control, so they are free to swim in the Carmel River, which runs along the edge of the park. In the summer make sure you watch for signs warning off dogs from swimming during an algae bloom. Blue-green algae can cause skin and eye irritation and is poisonous. Just to be on the safe side you should stop in at the Visitor Center and ask.
The main entrance to the park is 8.6 miles east of Highway 1 on Carmel Valley Road.
