Air Canada
We're very disappointed in Air Canada. Once, we lauded them as one of the most dog-friendly carriers out there. But no longer: as of September 18, 2006, dogs will no longer be allowed to fly in the cabin at all. Only dogs who, together with their kennel, weigh less than 70 pounds may be checked. And checked dogs are banned altogether during the winter holiday season. A checked dog will run $75 within North America, $175 on flights to other continents.

Before the cut-off date, your dog may travel in a kennel no larger than 211/2"l x 151/2"w x 9"h in the cabin within North America only for a fee of $75.

Because there are limits on the number of checked pets per flight, be sure to reserve a spot for your dog as early as possible.

Sending your dog as cargo involves fewer restrictions but costs more. For specifics, contact your local Air Canada cargo office.
