From microchips to claw clipping, from vaccinations to de-worming, bargains abound in the Bay Area. For example: while neutering or spaying a dog can set you back more than $400 at your vet's office, we found reputable veterinary organizations that will perform those operations for as little as $60, with lower-cost (and even free) alternatives for low-income and homeless residents, seniors and owners of pit bulls. Annual physicals can be had for as little as $38 and rabies vaccinations for as low as $5, right in the heart of San Francisco. We also found a host of affordable microchip resources, from the Peninsula to Marin and the East Bay. Read on for all the details. Know of low- or no-cost places we've overlooked? Let us know. – Laura Cavaluzzo
